About

MAD House is the latest venture by designer Melanie Abrantes, expanding her creative journey from Oakland, California, to Porto, Portugal.

Formerly the office of architect Adalberto Dias, Melanie teamed up with Porto-based Fala Atelier in 2022 to transform the space into MAD House—a vibrant, modern retreat.

MAD House will be the new second studio of Melanie Abrantes Designs and serves as a creative hub, fostering collaboration and innovation in the heart of Portugal's vibrant design community.

About Melanie:

Born in Houston, Texas, Melanie studied product design at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. In 2013, she founded Melanie Abrantes Designs in Oakland, focusing on handcrafted, sustainable home goods. Her passion for Portuguese craftsmanship and desire to connect with her heritage led her to establish a new studio in Porto.
